Conserving our planet requires much more involvement than that of the few environmentalist groups and activists. We all need to take part in the movement to save the earth. As the population increases, so does the production of goods and the amount of waste.
The decisions we make on a daily basis can truly make a huge impact in the environment. An eco-conscious life is not as difficult as some may think. It does not require any money, in fact, it will save us all money. It also does not require any huge changes in our day to day life, just, simple adjustments. A few individuals with the passion to help the earth cannot do it alone, we all need to do our part.
Simple solutions we must follow to live a greener life.
· Instead of paper towels, use cloth rags to clean the home and every day kitchen uses.
· Eliminate the use of disposable kitchenware.
· Use vinegar, baking soda, and lemon for cleaning. Not only is it eco-friendly and inexpensive, it also does a fabulous job.
· Purchase products in bulk (more product less packaging), in most cases this will also save you money.
· Wash your dishes and clothing with cold water. Hot water, does not necessarily clean better, in fact, most stains are removed easier with cold water.
· If you hand wash your dishes be conscious on the amount of water you are using . Turn off the faucet while soaping the dishes. No need to keep the water running the entire time.
· If you use the dishwasher, make sure it is completely filled before running it.
· Close the faucet while brushing your teeth.
· Fold or hang cloth as soon as it comes out of the dryer. It will avoid for you to take the extra step of ironing or touching up the clothing.
· Keep your AC at 75-76 degrees while at home, and at 78-79 while out.
· Close your window shades while out of the house.
· Keep lights and all appliances turned off while not in use.
· Maintain a recycling bin next to your garbage can. This will make it easy for you to simply place recycling items in the proper place.
· Consider using a pressure cooker once in a while instead of the oven. What typically takes 2 hours to cook in an oven can cook in 20 minutes in a pressure cooker.
· Use good quality reusable shopping bags instead of paper of plastic bags.
· Donate unwanted items and clothing.
· If possible try carpooling a couple of days a week.
· Use the front and back of paper before recycling
· Make sure to keep a recycling bin near your desk for all paper
· Take your own mug to coffee houses or the office.
· Turn off your computer at the end of the day.
· Purchase or encourage the purchasing manager in your work place to switch to eco-friendly inks and recycled paper.
